The Athens chapter of the American Culinary Federation, The Classic City Chefs & Cooks Association, has chosen Foundry Park Inn & Spa Executive Chef Steve Vining as its 2012 Chef of the Year. “I’m honored,” says Vining. “Over the last four years, I’ve put a tremendous amount of hard work into the Foundry kitchens, and it’s nice to be recognized for those efforts.”
In May, Chef Vining was promoted to Executive Chef at the Foundry Park Inn & Spa after having served as Head Banquet Chef for the previous four years. As Executive Chef, Vining oversees the entire food and beverage operations of the Foundry Park Inn & Spa, from banquet and special events, off-site catering, and culinary team building exercises to the Hoyt House restaurant and Melting Point pub kitchens.
As a member of the Classic City Chefs & Cooks Association, Vining is also working to present the 3rd Annual Classic City Soup Fest, a soup-and-seasonal-brew competition featuring chefs from local restaurants preparing their favorite soup recipes to raise money for the United Way and local domestic violence prevention nonprofit Project Safe. “Being awarded ‘Chef of the Year’ is a great thing,” says Vining, “but being a part of events like Soup Fest are so rewarding in that our community comes together for the benefit of others. It’s a great testament to the quality of our food culture here in Athens.”
